Detail: My 2001 sable does not tach out over 2500 RPMs, my garage said it was the electronic throttle. The mercury dealer said my model does not have an electronic throttle. My car cannot go up hill more tahn 50 mph with the gas pedal to the floor. could this be something with the pedal itself ?

What you are saying is the vehicle ran rough when started cold and as it warmed,it straightened out, but the check engine light stayed on. If what was causing the miss has corrected itself,you can try disconnecting the battery and let it sit for about ten minutes. Then reconnect the battery.This may allow the PCM to reset and the light to go out. If the concern happens again tomorrow,you need to have the code pulled so you can get to the cause.
