Goodluck! , ford only on the newer models ,software readers like scansoft or digisoft will not touch it if its a europeon model ,dont know about cars sold in america weither its the same coded software or not , Hi, You need to plug this into a code reader and see what codes are stored the most common reason for the engine cutting out is internal fuel pump failure will also cause poor starting , i have a 51 plate diesel have a problem where it wont start ,it turns over if i leave it a while it then starts .recently it would not start at all had new fuel pump fitted was ok for a few hours then same problem the AA came out did all the usual checks then towed me to a ford garage the glow plug light is now flashig so the AA man says the code is a imoboliser fault but he thinks its a cam sensor any help thanks , You may have dirty or clogged fuel injectors, may also be problems with the ignition system. Might also check the fuel pressure to make sure the fuel pump is working correctly. , My daughter has a 1998 Mazda Familia and had a similar problem with her car. She took it an auto electrician where they checked the engine computer 'fault register' and the two items with fault codes were the Knock Sensor and the Cam Position Sensor. The Knock Sensor had 'melted internals' and they replaced it with a good second hand unit; they also replaced the worn spark plugs. The loss of engine power continued.
