Detail Question SOLVED: How to replace distributor cap and rotor on 1999

Solution: This is a fairly easy job. Open the hood. The distributor cap will be on the front left side of the engine as you look at it. (Passenger side on US models). It is a round plastic cup shaped part about the size of your fist. See Photo below. ***Before you remove anything!*** Take the new cap and compare it to the old one. Rotate the new one until it matches as it only fits one way round. ONE AT A TIME pull each plug wire in turn and fit it to the matching hole on the new one. REMEMBER DO THEM ONE AT A TIME!!! If you don't you can cause more problems and have a car that wont run. Once you have moved the plug leads across, all 6, look at the old cap. There will be two small bolts holding it down. Unscrew these nand the cap should lift up and off. This will reveal the rotor. Pay attention to which way the rotor is pointing. It should just 'pull' off. Match the way it is pointing and push the new one into place. It should only fit one way round like the cap. The new cap should drop into place with all the wire in place. Refit the mounting bolts. Start the engine. It should run smoothly. IF IN DOUBT GET A GOOD MECHANIC TO DO IT FOR YOU!! , Hi, a 6ya Mechanic can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two. Check to see if you are getting spark from the distributor first. Have the ecm in the distributor checked at Oriellys for free. It's under the rotor and has two 8mm head bolts with wires plugged in at each end. , buy a Honda or Toyota, they work , Needs Crank sensor. Good luck , It could be a defective ignition switch. , lets start with the basics do you have spark and fuel?
