Solution: The thing to would be to hook up a factory or up scale scan tool to see if it will communicate . Your probably unfamiliar with control module communication on automobiles ! There is a microprocessor inside the instrument cluster ! Your best bet is to take to a qualified repair shop ,there is nothing you can do . If it needs to be replaced (which is highly likely ) info in the cluster needs to be down loaded to the scan tool ,then loaded into new one .The it needs to be programmed . When installing a new instrument cluster, it is necessary to upload the module configuration to the diagnostic tool. Following installation of the instrument cluster, download the module configuration from the diagnostic tool into the new instrument cluster. For additional information, refer to Section 418-01 . The following items are configurable: The Expedition and Navigator instrument clusters are configurable, hybrid electronic clusters (HEC) that contain a microprocessor, gauges, indicator lamps, and internal circuitry. The instrument cluster is non-repairable with the exception of the warning indicator bulbs and the instrument cluster lens. The instrument cluster uses hardwired circuitry, and the controller area network (CAN) to transmit and receive data from the vehicles other modules. For additional information regarding the communication networks, refer to Section 418-00 . It is very important to understand: where the input originates. all the information necessary in order for a feature to operate. which module(s) receive(s) the input or command message. does the module which received the input control the output of the feature, or does it output a message over the communication network to another module. which module controls the output of the feature. , Hi, a 6ya Mechanic can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two. This is going to sound a little strange, but, at some point the battery died. When the new battery was put in, all of a sudden the speedometer worked again. Can't explain it, but it's true. Maybe just disconnecting and re-connecting the battery would help you, BUT BE CAREFUL about the radio. When the battery is disconnected (or dies) you have to put the radio code in again to use your radio. Make sure you have the 4-digit radio code before you disconnect the battery. If you enter it 3 times and fail, google what to do then. , my 1998 cadillac deville information display cluster goes on and off for days at a time. most times I do not know how fast I am going or miles. , if its not a fuse. try a relay. itll be under the hood in a little box. if thats not it than it could be a short in the wiring.check your running lights as well. most of the time they are ran on the same fuse so if one doesnt work the other one probably wont. also if you have recently replaced your stereo. check over the wiring on it because something could have got loose. , Check the harness connection to the cluster. Will have to remove the cluster to get at it.
