Detail: I have clunking noise wheni turn on my 95 2.2 cavalier..i changed tie rods and i can tell its either coming from the front struts or the strut towers.do you know of these common problems..and if its the struts are they easy to dissasemble..Do i take the 3 nuts from the top strut of first to replace then the 2 big bolts on the bottom of the strut off second?
Solution: Usually a clunking sound is CV joints, however, take the two bottom bolts off first, make sure you don't over extend the cv shaft. It's better to have another person to hold the strut while you take the nuts off on top. I just replaced mine on my Caddy because the dampening was shot. I have never heard of struts clunking when turning. Always CV's. , Check your CV joints and then your struts. , Our car had a busted strut spring at top that was causing noise. Changed out and no more noise. , Hi, a 6ya Mechanic can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
