Detail: We just replaced the coolant sensor on my 1999 Chevy Lumina because the low coolant light came on n just kept blinkin but car never got hot...but now even after the sensor has been changed it is still on what else could be wrong n is it safe to drive the car with this low coolant light on?
Solution: Is the radiator full? make sure there are no air pockets in the engine block. Goodluck! , I have a 97 Cutlass. The low coolant light is on as well. After talking to some of my mechanic buddy's this is a know problem with this model of vehicle (Cutlass/Malibu). You can either replace the coolant reservoir with the sensor or just ignore the problem as even with replacing the parts it is likely to come back on. Hope this helps , There is a level /float sensor inside the tank. Wait until the engine is cold,empty the coolant tank and rinse. The system may be full for a while until thermostat opens and sucks the coolant out of radiator which is the perfect time to add more to top it off. Disconnecting your negative battery cable for 10 minutes will reset the computer and shut off the light.
